299 shazam red.jpgThe music recognition app - Shazam - which listens to a song then tells you what the title of the track is, has decided to support an African AIDs charity.

A few months ago Shazam launched a premium version of its app, Shazam Encore which sells for £2.99 or $4.99. And just today, it has revealed a new version of the premium app Shazam RED - costing the same price, it's the same app but 20% of the price goes to supporting an AIDs charity in Africa. The app description says: "AIDs is treatable and preventable. It costs $0.40 a day to purchase the two pills an individual with HIV needs to stay alive. To date over 4 million people have been helped through Global Fund programs that (RED) supports."

There are several features on premium Shazam not available on the free version:
Premium users get unlimited tagging, the ability to share those tags via Twitter and Facebook, and tap-through links to buy songs in the iTunes Store.

It also has the location features where tags are plotted on Google Maps, recommendations of songs based on your tag history, and the ability to associate camera-snaps with tags.

So if you're thinking of upgrading your Shazam app to the premium version, go for the RED Shazam Encore. With Farmville encourage donations to victims of the food crisis in Haiti, looks like apps are doing their bit for charity this Christmas.
