Traditionalists and acoustic instrument buffs will be horrified, but Yamaha clearly has no interest in their concerns and what they think. Their EZ-TP electronic teaching trumpet is for the digital generation (real instruments are so 90s). Its appeal is fourfold. Firstly, it's a teaching trumpet, so that rules out having a foul breathed pot-bellied man yell instructions at you - he's replaced with lighting valves. Secondly, it allows you to practice quietly with good ole' volume control, rather than bellowing out that brassy racket - it would sure make the neighbours and the other house residents happy.
Thirdly, like a majority of synthetic versions of acoustic instruments, Yamaha has "enhanced" the electronic trumpet with 22 different sounds. And lastly, it looks like one cool piece of trumpet playing kit. Ok, so maybe I should have said fivefold, as it can also be hooked up to a PC or keyboard for MIDI-enabled tunage. You also won't need to use the full force and hard blowing technique of a real trumpet as this version simply requires you to hum into it.
It's currently available in Japan only, but could find its way to music classes worldwide before we know it.
