Xbox offers free storage and hard drives to the needy

xbox_360_experience.jpgMicrosoft has come across all neighbourly and is giving Xbox users a fantastic opportunity to upgrade their Xbox's memory banks. In order to ensure all Xbox users will be able to reap the benefits of the platform's new dashboard upgrade before its official launch on 19th November, Microsoft is giving the hard drive-less this fantastic storage opportunity. Microsoft says users will need 128MB of free storage space to run the new Xbox 360 Experience and all its crazy avatars, which poses a real problem for Xbox 360 Arcade or Core owners without a hard drive.

Interested? You'll need to provide the details of your console's serial number on the dedicated website, then eligible users will be offered a free 512MB memory card or a refurbished 20GB HDD for the cheap as chips price of £12.99.

More details after the jump...

To break it down a bit further, active Xbox Live users who possess no hard drive but have a measly 64MB memory card, will be offered the free memory card. Active Xbox Live members with decent sized memory cards can opt for the £12.99 20GB HDD. If you've neglected Xbox Live and left your account dormant for the past year and don't own a memory card, you'll be offered a 20GB hard drive for £19.99. It's all a bit convoluted really, so if you want to know more you can do that here. What I want to know is how gamers will feel when they find out access to the Xbox experience requires additional expense?
