Toshiba unveils the latest line of Portégé laptops

A600.jpgToshiba's gone a bit greedy on us - well it's either that or they're trying to ensure at least one of their lappys gains the popularity they so desperately crave (clearly). They're not unleashing a couple of lappys, no, Toshiba is going the whole hog by unveiling four brand spanking new laptops.

First up is the Portégé R600, which according to Toshiba has taken the 'World's Thinnest and Lightest' title from its predecessor, weighing 2.14lbs and measuring 1.18-inches thick. I'm no mathematician, but I'm sure Samsung's X360 laptop is still winning the 'World's Lightest Laptop' race. It features a 12.1-inch LED backlit display, Intel's Core Duo Ultra Low Voltage Processer, 2GB RAM, 128GB SSD, or 160GB hard drive and will give you a battery life of up to nine hours. This "highly reliable laptop" starts at $2,399 USD.

Next up is the Tecra R10 with Intel Centrino 2 processor technology, which is incidentally the fastest in the line-up. It's aimed at the business user and is apparently "the most secure Toshiba laptop ever". However, if you're not a business person don't feel you aren't worthy of its 200GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, DVD Super-Multi Double Layer drive, WiFi, webcam, Bluetooth capabilities and $1,999 USD price tag - you buy it if you want to.

Toshiba also launched the Portégé M750 Tablet PC and A600. The M750 comes fully loaded with 2GB RAM, 200GB hard drive, a DVD Super-Multi Double Layer drive, WiFi capabilities, and integrated webcam under its titanium silver chassis. It also features a 12.1-inch screen, a 5-in-1 card reader and bilingual keyboard. Prices start from $2,199 USD. The A600 shares similar specs with the M750 but also gets a thumbs up from the Green Electronics Council.

All models feature Toshiba's EasyGuard shock absorbing technology for hard drive, display and outer shell protection. As well as that, all the laptops feature a spill resistant keyboard and fingerprint reader. Unfortunately, the latest Portégé line has been unleashed in Canada (well it's not so unfortunate for the Canadians). There's no word on whether they'll be making their way across the water to us, and if we are likely to get our hands on one, it'll most likely be the R600. We'll keep you posted.
