T-Mobile's G1 emulator lets you play before official release

Has T-Mobile's G1 caught your eye, but you're not yet sure if you'll get along with its interface? I bet you would really appreciate having a little play around with it before you make the purchase wouldn't you? We can't all be providential like Susi, who got her hands on it a couple of weeks ago. Some of us have to go for the next best thing, which in this case is the G1 emulator on the T-Mobile website. Use it to navigate and play around with the phone as if it were right in front of you (obviously you're going to have to use your imagination with this).

Click buttons, use the touchscreen with your mouse, and have a nose through the menus, features and functions to give you a general feel and to help you decide whether the Android powered phone gets a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Understandably, you won't get a GPS signal or the internet browser, and the camera won't be taking any snaps. But, you do get a sneak peak at the phone's interface - how many handsets have done that in the past?

Has this been designed to genuinely give people an insight into the highly anticipated Google phone, or is it a ploy from T-Mobile to generate even more excitement around their handset which is due to land next month.

Have a look for yourself here

This is a good idea. I hope more companies follow their lead and make product interfaces available online for "trying out".

I agree Ellen, it is a good idea. The question is, are other companies taking note and is T-Mobile going to roll this out on their future handsets. I sure hope so.
