The death of the ipod has been forecast

ipod_death_2.jpgIf you listen carefully, you can hear the cries of Apple fanboys and girls everywhere crying "say it ain't so Apple, say it ain't so". This isn't a definite, so you're tunes aren't currently residing in an outcast bit of kit... just yet. The ominous prediction comes from the other Steve, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who is saying the iPod and the whole iPod family will eventually be knocked off the top spot and disappear into obscurity to join the likes of the transistor radio and Walkman (didn't the Walkman make a very stylish comeback?).

The foundation of his statement stems from his belief that when products are on display in every location possible, it gets to the point when they become budget items and don't sell as much. Which is why he thinks the market may be close to saturation.

He may not work for the company anymore but that didn't stop him having a dig at the iPhone and its proprietary features too, saying ""Consumers are not getting all they want when companies are very proprietary and lock their products down. I would like to write some more powerful apps than what you're allowed."

I wonder what Apple and the other Steve have made of his comments?

What do you think, is the iPod and its family on its last legs?
