The 8 megapixel battle just got a new contender from Casio

The fusion of digital cameras and mobile phones just got more interesting. With all the buzz surrounding 8 megapixel mania and the anticipation of handsets from Motorola and more high pixeled snappers from both LG and Samsung, we lost sight of the idea of other manufacturers even thinking about giving it a go, let alone actually doing it. This is what makes the arrival of Casio's flip phone Exilim W63CA so exciting.

A quick glance could easily mistake it for a digital camera (unless you're seeing it from the side). Its features sound camera worthy too, with an 8.1 megapixel sensor, wide angle lens, 9-point auto focus, face detection and anti-shake. It's also YouTube friendly with optimised VGA video shooting at 30fps, should you want to upload you mate's latest drunken shenanigans to the ubiquitous video player.

The focal point is clearly those 8 megapixels of picture taking goodness, but that's not all the phone's about. It's also a media player and underneath its shell, there's a 3.1-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels (that matches the resolution of the HTC Touch Pro) and a microSD slot.

Casio won't be bringing this to the UK, instead it'll be launching in Japan at the end of November. Fingers crossed that when/if it does make it over here, Casio scraps the sickly yellow colour and brings us the pink, silver and bronze offerings. Worth a trip to Japan for? Hell yea.
