No Facebook app for Android

facebook-app-thumb-200x339.jpgAndroid does not house an official Facebook app, I repeat Android does not house an official Facebook app. This is pretty big news for Facebook zealots, hoping to get their hands on the G1 next week. Can you handle a phone that won't allow you to access Facebook via your mobile? Can you wait until you're sat in front of a computer to update your status or upload your latest pics, or will you beg friends to borrow their FB enabled phones so you can satisfy your fix?

Facebook put aside nada for Android and commented that Google or another third party will have to develop the application instead. If we dig a bit deeper for a bit of background on this quite shocking bit of news, we find out Facebook gets its advertising from Microsoft and Google provides ads for MySpace, so it's no surprise Facebook isn't doing Google any favours.

Hopefully an Android fan with a lot of time on his/her hands will step in and develop an app for them.

If you're not impressed much, might I suggest the iPhone or a Blackberry? They show Facebook some love?

Could G1 users not just wap on down to the Facebook mobile site using the browser?

Steve...(...who considered posting under a fake lady-name... I just like the articles, okay........)

I can see this becoming very popular with bosses looking to keep their employee's productivity up. LOL! "Here's a company phone--there's no Facebook on it. Now get to work!" :)

I've been using the G1 for a couple of days and love it.
I want to make it clear that even if there is no dedicate Facebook app, you WILL still be able to access Facebook (full and mobile version) through the phone's browser. It's pretty decent actually.

So what if it has an App or not for Facebook? you can always access it via the browser - the app doesn't really add something, but yes i take it the g1 users will be those with a little more intelligence and need for something reliable, I can't wait to get my hands on the g1 and see what it can do and how it works. but im not worried that it doesnt' have an app for facebook. im just hoping it has better battery life than the iphone.

I think people using android software will find another social network to use. Developers are using GPS and integrting this with social networks, examples of this can be seen at http://www.googlehone.me

Surprise, surprise. but I'm sure it's only a matter of time until some loser nerd writes a Facebook app.
I would but I truly loathe Facebook users. I almost hate them as much as I hate Apple or Xbox 360 fanboys.

That's good to know it still works well via the browser - a Facebook app would have been nice though wouldn't it? Like Larga Jan says, it'll only be a matter of time before someone (probably a nerd) creates a FB app for it anyway (not a FB fan eh Larga Jan?).

There are other social network options, but there are so many FB devotees, it's understandable this news is a little disappointing.

Steve... thanks for making me laugh. That's what I like to see, a man who's proud to be a Shiny Shiny fan :).

Wow! That's a lot of hatred!

I'm not so sure - Facebook has become pretty ubiquitous, and I'm not sure there's going to be enough Android users to warrant a whole new network...

It's alright Steve - I happen to know that 40% of the 'ladies' that post comments are actually in possession of some decidedly non-ladylike organs. Good on you for coming clean.
