asus_n_series.jpgThe new generation of sub-notebooks (netbooks or just super-tiny PCs depending on what you want to call them) is a great step forward in green computing. Most models on the market today run on a fraction of the electricity guzzled by standard PCs - even those claiming to be green.

Asus has recently been given a pat on the back for their work in the eco-friendly area by scooping a gold star from green tech body EPEAT. Read on to find out why.

ASUS, which has been working hard to get into the notoriously hard-to-reach 'green' bracket of information technology, has finally made it with the N-series, scornig 21 out of 27 optional points on EPEAT's scale. A breakdown of those scores is as follows:

Reduction/Elimination of environmentally sensitive materials: 8/8
Materials selsction 0/3
Design for end of life 5/5
Product longevity 2/2
Energy conservation 0/2
End of life management 1/1
Corporate performance 2/2
Packaging 3/4

The notebook uses Super Hybrid Engine technology which preserves battery live by up to 35%. The display uses LED and so is mercury free and energy sipping. And the N series is Energy Star compliant. Big step in the right direction for a tiny PC!
