If the word 'super' appears before a name or product (Superman, SuperTed, Super Mario etc), they have to display some kind of super power. As far as super powers go, Sony's new AW series doesn't rank as high as other super objects and people, but Sony is hoping to get rid of your desire for a desktop PC with their "Super Notebook". Not quite a super power, but if you happened to opt for this over a PC, its powers would have succeeded.
Its screen is certainly mighty - 18.4-inches - and its specs are quite superior too. Sony uses the same 3LED backlighting used it its Bravia LCD TVs, offers full HD (1920 X 1080) and includes a Blu-ray disc drive to take full advantage of that hefty screen. Sound is provided courtesy of Dolby Home Theatre audio signal processing with 2.1 channel speakers, complete with subwoofer and surround sound.
More after the jump...
Other specs include an Intel Duo T9600 processor, HDMI input and NVIDIA's 512MB GeForce 9600M GT (3D graphics). It also packs 128GB SSD and 500GB hard drive which works together in a RAID array - a technology that enhances performance and reliability when working with large files by simultaneously using two or more hard disk drives. It's also crammed with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Elements, which should appease photographers who like nothing more than a bit of photo editing.
Will Sony's new superpower reign supreme and divert people from desktop PCs? Only time will tell. Prices will start from £999 when it officially launches at the end of the month.
