Samsung's X360 notebook makes no subtle hints about it being lighter than the Macbook Air, which incidentally beats the Voodoo Envy to the punch. And although it doesn't mention Apple directly, by referring to it as "the lighter than air" notebook, it alludes to the fact it's smaller than Apple's offering. Zara managed to get her hands on the "lighter than Air" notebook at IFA and was quite impressed with its feather-light weight and SSD memory capacity. So let's take a closer look.
Samsung's X360 is very lightweight, weighing a measly 1.27kg, making it "the lightest notebook in its 13.3-inch class". The X360 packs Intel Centrino 2 Ultra Low Voltage process technology for efficient power consumption, the choice to opt for a 128GB solid state drive and runs Windows Vista. It also comes with the new Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 graphics core, for enhanced graphic performance and flexible display options. Due to its 13.3-inch WXGA LED display, it uses less power than a traditional LED screen and includes a removable 6 cell battery for 6-10 hours of continuous use.
Samsung's P-Dock docking station is another feature of the X360, providing easy access to the variety of ports available. The notebook is also very into its hygiene and will remain bacteria free for even longer, thanks to a nano-sized amount of silver ion powder sprinkled on the keyboard.
The more standard features include an HDMI port, VGA output, a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 7 in 1 memory reader, Ethernet port, 3 USB ports and Bluetooth 2.0.
It's available in two models - NP-X360-AA01 and NP-X360-AA02. The obvious difference between the two is the memory box. The AA01 packs 128GB SSD and 3GB of DDR3 RAM. The AA02 packs a 128GB hard disk drive and 2GB of DDR RAM.
Prepare for its launch at the end of October.
