It was beginning to look like Asus had turned its back on the very model that started the mini notebook craze - the Eee PC 701. They seem to have taken the criticism onboard - you know, the jibes concerning their recent models moving further away from the itsy bitsyness of the original Eee PC (namely the 904, 905 models and the recently unveiled Ultimate and Pro Fashion series) - and are making a return back to familiar territory.
Asus is giving the 701 a brand spanking new overhaul. We're being told the 701SD will be similar to the 901 in terms of body, minus the rounded edges. It'll sport the same keyboard and touchpad, and have a 30GB hard disk rather than an SSD. We're also expecting to see an Atom processor and a very nice cheap and cheerful price tag to boot - all in time for a bit of September shopping.
