Bluetooth headsets may very well be legal for a bit of hands-free talking, but that doesn't mean they're comfortable, or that they won't make you look ridiculous. Bluetooth headsets are particularly annoying if you have a pierced tragus, or small ears for that matter. Isn't it good news then, that the follow on from the Parrot Minikit has landed today - presenting the Parrot Minikit Slim.
The Minikit Slim is a really stylish, compact and lightweight (83g) Bluetooth speaker, designed for using pretty much wherever you darn well please - the car, the office, a mate's house or while out for a stroll. It also features a discreet clip, so it attaches easily to your car's sun visor, to something on your desk, or maybe you want to be a bit different and clip it onto your lapel. Doing the latter might make you look a tad silly, but who's to say you can't do that at home eh? Design-wise, it looks pretty good, although it doesn't have a screen, but this in no way affects the device's performance.
It's really easy to set up, so easy that even your technologically useless parents could work it. Firstly, you'll need to pair the device with your phone. Once paired, the Minikit will automatically synch your phonebook to its memory. It will store up to 2,500 contacts, if you happen to know that much people. It's also voice activated, and anyone can use it, so no having to tediously set up individual voice tags. With a simple press of the green button, you'll be asked in a rather polite tone of voice, "who would you like to call", you simply repeat a name from your contacts and the kit will locate it and call it. This all takes place in around 5 seconds. It works really well and the sound quality is brilliant. It does have a bit of trouble locating complex names, but when you're trying to access Dan Payasugo' and 'Knob-head Joe', it's hardly surprising the Minikit cannot comprehend.
There's no speaker, instead the Minikit Slim uses NXT vibrating panel technology, which produces clear sound quality and allows for a much slimmer outer shell. Even in the car with the windows down, the audio quality doesn't disappoint.
If you're looking for an easy-to-install Bluetooth hands-free kit, then the Parrot Minikit Slim is definitely worth checking out. Not only was I impressed with how loud and clear it sounds, even with the radio on, but you also get ten hours of talk time and it's speedy.
It will be available next month for £59.99, with the limited edition Minikit Chic, complete with floral design, to follow.
