So, Surya, the world's first ecological nightclub has just opened, complete with its own wind turbine, solar energy system and electricity generating dance floor. It only opened recently and is already getting a lot of flak for not being as eco-friendly as it claims. Obviously, its creators are going to stand up tall and say it's completely ecological. However, that's all rubbish according to Friends of the Earth, who say the club's activities "are not compatible with their work to promote low-carbon living", and are more than a little peed off the club has decided to use their logo.
See how eco-friendly the club really is after the jump.
Ok, so here's the eco-friendly bit, and it's all about recycling and re-using. The dance floors contain crystal blocks which generate up to 60 percent of the clubs electricity, so while your raving your little heart out, you'll be giving back to the environment. The tables are made of magazines, the walls out of old mobile phones and drinks are served in polycarbonate cups. Waterless urinals have also been fitted to save 90 gallons of water. Even the wine is fair trade and organic, and the club, named after the Hindu sun god, plans to donate surplus electricity to locals.
One thing that's going to be particularly hard to enforce though, is the club's free entry rule. If you can prove you've either cycled or walked to the club in Kings Cross, you'll get in for free. This does prove to be somewhat of a problem though. Does this include the walk from the train station or a parked car, or what? You could just flick water on your face, add some sweat patches on those pits and claim you've trekked all the way from east London.
