On April Fools day, the internet was rife with technology related gaggery. One of the tales told, which fooled a lot of people, was the iMind, a mind-reading iPod controller. This would mean just thinking about a particular track would make it play - how amazing would that be? Sadly, it was just an April Fools joke and wasn't going to be a reality. But... fast forward a few months and prepare to rekindle that excitement, particularly the gaming enthusiasts. Why? Because the gag was partly true.
According to the president of Nintendo, thought controlled gaming is only "a few years away", and it will take gaming to a whole new level. The video game headset, which will be able to detect brainwaves and use gesture based technology, will be such a breakthrough in the gaming industry, you probably won't ever see your gaming buddies ever again! This basically means that as soon as we think something in our heads, it will appear within the game.
Despite wide-spread (and understandable) scepticism, pre-release testing has proven that this actually works. Although brain-wave technology has already become a reality with Emotive's EPOC headset, which features 16 sensors to measure electrical activity in the brain, it seems Nintendo will come out with the first mind-controlled console on the market. It could even be with us as soon as 2010. Let's all keep our fingers crossed.
