I am a keen lover of robots and have a few proudly on show around my house for when I feel like a bit of robotic action (not that kind of action - I'm not a freak)!! The i-Sobot from Tomy is the world's smallest humanoid robot in production, well at least it is according the Guiness Book of World Records. This is no ordinary robot (and quite frankly makes my collection look crap) and will appeal to tech loving kids and adults alike.
They say good things come in small packages and the 6 ½" i-Sobot is testament to this overly used aphorism. Not only can it dance, do push-ups, somersaults, stand on one leg, re-enact a cowboy duel from an American Western, play air guitar (genius) AND perform martial arts, it also has a repertoire of 200+ action patterns.
The fun doesn't stop there. The i-Sobot can perform up to 240 movements in sequence, so you can design a massive range of routines for it to do. All you have to do is program it using the remote control, sit back and watch your robot perform for you like a puppet. For manual control simply use the joystick and trigger buttons on the remote. i-Sobot also responds to voice commands, such as 'go forward' and 'back up' and even acknowledges questions like 'how are you?' It even talks itself, and you can program it to say hello and introduce itself - pretty cool huh?
There are four modes in total - manual control, special actions, programmed sequences, and voice command. You can alternate between these modes at the touch of a button which appear on the remote's LCD screen.
What a great way to spend your hours in the evening (not just for people without a life). It's not available at the moment so you can't get your techy mitts on it just yet, but it's out July 2008 for around £200. That's pretty decent for a fully functional robot with realistic moves - I should know, I've seen it in action.
