Microsoft are the latest bunch to revamp their search engine, adding all sorts of new fun things to your web searching day. The spokesperson sounded the death knell for all the things we know and (kinda) love, telling Tech Digest "the way search looks has to change - you won't see a list of ten blue links in five years time." I kind of liked blue links...
Added to the mix is the ability to see live previews of the videos you search for (very much like what Ask announced in June last year), as well as a new ability to second guess what you're searching for - apparently 50% of us edit our initial search straight after hitting search in order to get better results.
But blah, blah, blah - they're bringing us more celebrity gossip!
xRank has been integrated, which shoes you the movers and shakers of the celeb world, in terms of what's being said about them on the internet. You can then check out their biographies, videos and more from the initial page.
There's also a new Books section, which will publish 30,000 out-of-copyright books, as well some reference material. These appear like PDFs, although some of them you need to have signed in with a Windows Live ID to view. Wikipedia may be shaking in its boots. Finally, if you're mobile, the search will track your position, offering you the nearest services to you.
Phew.
