For a lightbulb to be really eco-friendly it needs to be both low on the power consumption and long lasting, which provides the double whammy of energy saving from the bulb itself and from disposal / recycling processes. Toshiba's new Neoball-Z Real Pride bulbs address both these issues and ditch the common fluorescent corkscrew shape.
That might ruin the effect of your ice-cream lamp holders, I guess. Still, their lifespan is rated at 12,000 hours, 1.2 times better than equivalent products and 12 times better than a regular bulb. Energy use clocks in at 10 watts and warm white, day white and daylight colours will be available for an as-yet-unconfirmed price on the 1st of July.
