Solar powered charger disguised as a coffee table

solo.jpgThis is a more elegant addition to the ever growing list of solar powered gadgets. As you can probably tell, it's a table. But you'd never guess what it does, and that's what we like about it.

It's designed to take in all that sunny energy (not so good for the UK then) and turn it into stored power, so you can charge your gadgets when they need refuelling. It's also weatherproof, so if you can't be bothered to cart it back and forth due to the sporadic English weather, it's fine to leave it outside.

According to its creators, if you leave your SOLO outside for a year in a "typical outdoor setting" (whatever that means), it can apparently store enough energy to charge your phone 6,800 times or your laptop 168 times. Sounds like it would be good for the ole' electricity bill doesn't it? It also comes equipped with USB sockets, Bluetooth, a car-style 12V socket and a built-in LCD monitor.

I haven't tested it myself so I won't sing its praises too much but it does sound like an awfully good product AND it's stylish. A lot of designers get the whole stylish gadget thing wrong so it's nice to see techy home furniture which is both elegant and stylish enough to put in your living room.

There's no price info at the moment but it sounds impressive so it'll probably be pretty pricey.
