Now I love Archos players. Like really, really love them. The problem is I also adore a whole bunch of other gadgetry, and my handbag has really started overflowing to an unacceptable degree. Honestly, a camera, a mobile, a PMP and a Tom Tom? It can't be done.

Well, Archos has now announced the launch of a GPS In-Car-Holder for the Archos 605. The PMP snaps easily into the bracket, which acts as a satellite receiver, and all related maps of the UK or Europe are downloaded into the hard drive on the player.

The device then acts as a Sat Nav, with touchscreen navigation, mapping facilities and route calculation. The European version of maps cover 22 countries and this facility works with all 605 models, from the 4GB to the 160GB versions. You also get features such as traffic assistance, easy to read route planning, an and of course an annoying female voice telling you to turn left or right (which can be muted).

I like how this device can now multi-task, and you're sure never to forget it in your car as you'll always want your movies and music with you. I'm not so keen on the fact that each Sat Nav is directly linked to the receiver and won't work with any other model - what if you want to share it with a friend or have it stolen? Still, it's simple to use and very affordable, and best of all, combines two useful devices in one.

From £99.99 at Archos from May 2008.
