Ex Brit Ian Usher has had enough. Like seriously enough. He's found that all his material positions and cushy job down under somehow don't manage to compensate for the fact that he's just separated from his wife and love of his life. Everything he has now reminds him of her, and despite having a lifestyle that many might envy he now feels bereft and lost - so he is selling it. And by this, I mean all of it. His house, his job, all his belongings, the whole shebang. There will be an auction on June the 22nd, where everything is up for grabs, but one has to wonder about his sanity. Is he a fool for love, or just plain crazy?
Fortunately Ian seems to be a relatively sharp cookie, and has answered some of our questions for us.
'Why give it all up? Well, there are too many reminders here for me. Everything here is connected with that past life, and as cannot have that life anymore, then I don't want to hang on to it desperately. It's time to let it all go and move on to the next big adventure that life has to offer.'
And what's included?
'Everything. Lifestyle. House. Car. Motorbike. Job. Friends. Everything that I own, and all of the things that I don't own, but that are still an important part of my life!'
Somehow he's got his boss to agree to hire the winner of the auction and plans to walk out the house on the 29th June with just his passport and wallet. He has even posted videos of what you will get, in the auction, from his lovely house, to pets and hobbies. It's all a bit surreal for me, as I'm not sure a life really can be bartered in such a way.
It's an interesting way to reinvent yourself, but the amount of publicity generated by this proposed auction seems to be a strange way of coping with a very private grief. Either way, once this sale is over it will be interesting to see just what Ian does next, as other than travelling, I'm not really sure one can supplant oneself that easily (visa issues, etc).
Still eBay is known for some weird auctions as in the past we've had a lot of strange stuff, with everything from toast that looks like Jesus to toenail clippings being up for grabs. It'll be interesting to see just what this man is worth- how much would you pay to be him?

I'm more worried about whats he going to do after he's sold his life...it'll probably sell at a much lower price than he bargained for and then what, suicide?
