Philips launches Eco FlatTV and designesque 9000 series. Again.

eco flattv.jpgI'm here in Lisbon taking a look at all that Philips has to offer, including up close and personal contact with some of the stuff announced at the beginning of the year at CES.

On such product is the Eco FlatTV, Philips' award winning eco option for telly watching. They reckon it uses power sensibly, through features like the dimming technology, which measures the light in the room and adjusts the LCD backlight accordingly, without effecting the picture quality. When it's in standby, the environmentalist's nemesis, it uses less than 0.15 watts of energy (surely if it was truly energy efficient they wouldn't have the standby button at all?).

There's also the 9700 and 9600 TVs, which they promise us delivers the best HD around. The Perfect Pixel HD Engine has the kind of processor you'd probably find on one of the 1960s super computers, but this time all dedicated to bringing you eye-popping visuals. There are refresh rates of 2 milliseconds, and 2.250 trillion colours. I find it difficult to name them all though.

Both feature Ambilight Spectra, which projects the colour from the television picture from the back of the set, towards the wall. That means less eye strain and 'a more immersive viewing experience'.

Both sets are part of the Design Collection, which is supposed to take inspiration from things like the curve of your arse and ovaries, from what I can tell. No, I'm not even joking. The speakers are also all hidden away in the frame, for maximum smoothivity. Anyway, I'll endeavour to grab some video of both, so you can see for yourself.
