New jargon alert!!! Web 3.0, Twine and the semantic web

Right, buckle up folks, here comes a concept. Just when you think you've mastered throwing the phrase 'Web 2.0' nonchalantly into conversation, someone enters into one-upmanship. And so we reach Web 3.0.

Thanks to a new beta called Twine, the web is aflame with varying accounts on how this life organiser and community builder is going to hint towards the future of the web. The idea behind it is that it's a tool that learns from its users. It automatically tags and learns from everything you add, every comment you make and every connection you initiate with other users to become more intelligent. The semantic-ness comes from its understanding of the meaning of your input, rather than being a dumb host. For instance, if you were to tag a page on Amazon of a CD of the Best of Blur, it would tag Blur, the Best of album, Damon Albarn, since he was the lead singer, and then also The Good, The Bad and The Queen, since that's his new band, despite the fact that the band may not be featured on the page at all.

The semantic web is just one possibility for Web 3.0, which is basically just the next stage of the internet. Another possibility is that it will be connections speeds or even changes in graphics which will revolutionise how we use the internet. That's a story I'll save for another day.

Twine sounds awesome, but has anyone been approved for the Beta yet? They say they're letting people in slowly, yet I registered as soon as I could (several months ago) both as personal and corporate users and they still haven't gotten around to whatever batches I'm in. Just wondering.. can't wait to check out the API.
