Ewgeco energy monitor demystifies energy bills and helps you reduce wastage

ewgeco-thumb-150x187.gifTanya Ewing is a bit of a superwoman, powering her way to a Female Inventor of the Year prize for the Ewgeco, an energy monitoring device that helps you control your energy output at work or at home (and no, that doesn't mean working less hard).

You get a clear picture of the amount of electricity, water and gas you're using both in real time and over time, so you can quickly act to reduce it. The Carbon Trust has speculated that it could reduce emissions by up to 20% if people are more aware of what they're using. Importantly, Ewing created the device not just to help save energy but to demystify energy bills which people still say are the most confusing and unclear of all their household utility bills.

Abi at Hippyshopper found herself "quite mesmerised by the pretty lights on the visual display, which represent electricity, gas and water respectively". It's hard to imagine ignoring this if it's in the hallway, bathroom or kitchen, nagging at your conscience.

There's a demo video to be found here; the first devices are coming off the production line imminently and being fitted in Ewing's home town of Perth, Scotland, so you can expect wider availability soon.
