BBC iPlayer available for iPhone and iPod Touch. (Still no Mac download support)

The BBC has opened up the streaming functionality of its iPlayer to iPhone and iPod Touch users today, as promised just weeks ago. It all looks pretty positive, too - it's turning out to be a great mobile TV option, an O2 has a deal with The Cloud offering a lot of free WiFi access to potential users. That's just as well, because EDGE is too slow to support the iPlayer.

I've long been able to stream programs on BBC iPlayer along with everyone else, and streaming is all I would probably want to do with a mobile device (although I might not be in the majority there). However, at home I'd quite like to download instead and I cannot, because the BBC uses DRM that only supports Windows XP and Vista. I appreciate it's easier to branch out into streaming to mobile devices than fixing this problem but it's a bit poor that Auntie is using the popularity of Apple products to widen the reach of its product while still condemning Mac users to half a service.
