It seems everyone nowadays, from JVC to Samsung is bringing out a video camera with High Def capabilities, and now Toshiba have joined in with the fun. Their new Gigashot range comprises of two new series, the A and K range, each which offer HD video and still imaging capture. Both series have a 3 inch wide screen TFT LCD colour display and electronic image stabilisation. This also includes an SD/SHC card slot that supports up to 8GB for high quality stills.
The A series weighs in at 495 grams and uses MPEG-4 video to capture high resolution images. It has a 10x optical zoom, and a 80x digital zoom with a CMOS sensor. There are two models in the A range, the Gigashot A40F which holds a 40GB hard drive ad retails at £679 and the Gigashot A100F which has 100GB of space and retails for £849. The hard disc is safeguarded by a protection system which uses gel cushioning and a freefall sensor, so no matter how much you knock it your recordings will stay intact.
The K range also comprises of two models, a 80GB K80H for £499 and a 40GB K40H for £44, which is more affordable for the budget conscious auteur, but still offers premium quality recording with a 10x optical zoom and video resolution at 1280x720 pixels.
