Here at Shiny Shiny, we're all about "stuff". Despite having an eco-conscience (yes, really), we can't help being distracted by pretty, sparkly things. Some of these are justifiable technological advances; some of them are just pretty, sparkly and probably a massive waste of resources.
Well, if you wanted to indulge in your consumer guilt for twenty animated minutes, Annie Leonard is here to help. The Story of Stuff is an impassioned potted history of consumer production, narrated by a live-action Leonard surrounded by her doodles. It's based on ten years of travel and research from Leonard; given that it covers areas such as the toxicity in the consumer cycle and the threat to the purity of breast milk, you can't expect big corporations to be granted much of a right to reply here. Yes, it's probably biased, but the claims are also convincing enough to ring true; as with every piece of research of its kind, be prepared to do your own digging.
