Leaving the house and disentangling yourself from the internet can be an entirely unwelcome experience for many geeks, but luckily the Science Museum has created a refuge for all those who start to feel the sweats of withdrawal when out in West London. An installation called the 'Listening Post' takes snippets from thousands of conversations happening over the internet at any one time, which are then displayed on train station-style screens and read about by computer synthesised voice. The result is 'poetry... [generated from] the often banal traffic on the internet'.
The words are uncensored and unedited, and according to the BBC they're "predominantly clean ones". This begs all sorts of questions regarding what would happen if truly horrific words were to appear, since if I saw 'murder', 'kicking' or 'the next Cheeky Girls' appear, I might feel it's my responsibility to society to act.
