It can't just be me that approaches every new mobile handset with the phrase 'iPhone killer?' in the back of my mind. Out of the phones we've seen so far today, the new Nokia N96 looks like one of the most likely candidates. So, how does it stack up?
Interface
Winner: iPhone
The touchscreen and the UI make the iPhone stand out from the crowd, where using a Nokia is... fine.
Storage
Winner: N96
If you're going to use the MP3 functionality, you need a decent memory size, and despite the recent iPhone upgrade to 16GB, it's no match for extra 16GB you can expand the internal 16GB N96 memory making a massive 32GB of media goodness.
Camera
Winner: N96
The iPhone camera is a paltry 2 megapixels, with no flash. The N96 is 5, with flash, with 30fps video recording. It will even geotag your photos. Apple who?
Other media
Winner: iPhone
Yes, the N96 has DVB-H, but since that's not what we use in Europe, we won't be watching full TV on our phones any time soon. The prospect of streaming from YouTube means the iPhone wins this round.

We might have mentioned once or twice that we'd quite like our iPhone with a side helping of 3G. Well, the N96 comes with HSDPA and WiFi, making internet browsing browsable.
Conclusion: Oh god, do I have to conclude? Because on paper, obviously the N96 looks better. But that' just it. It's on paper. It's not showing off to your mates in the pub. And in pub-stakes, the iPhone wins every time.

this was the bestest review I've ever seen. all the facts are rite, and the features av been looked at, it's sooo obvious thatthe iphone is great. and you should just go buy a mac as well coz pc sucks.
Almost a ridiculous review - the n95 first generation had accelermeter, streaming media etc.
The idea that iPhone comes ANYWHERE NEAR the n96 in connectivity is a dark joke. The n96 connects to everything, in every way - the iPhone is not even close.
Macs are the worst product on the market - take it from someone who has been using both for over ten years - they are for people who do not understand technology. There is nothing wrong with being a Luddite - just don't pretend your not.

this is an interesting reviews although you have not mention the gps capability and the fact that iphone relies on google maps and no signal no map. Another point i'd like to mention is that iphone wins in looks and that's all.....
well no offence but this review's facts are off, the I pohone has a few good points but the reality of it is its just a gimic and even the new 3g one cannot stand up to the N96, its just a simple fact that the nokia just out performs the Iphone, all you need to do is drop the N96 from 4 feet and drop the Iphone and see which still works, my friend had a bet and lost as his Iphone screwed up. Also on the Iphone you cannot change the battery, so if it breaks your phone is usless unless you pay 100's to get it fixed, N96's battery life might not be as good but for $10 you can buy another battery so you can just change them over, bottom line Mac have come a long way and the I phone is still cool, but overall PC and Windows have more experiance and features and overall are better than mac. Put it this way How long have NOkia been making phones ? how long have apple ?

Is this so-called "review" for real? The N96 is a MUCH better phone that the iPhone and the iPhone 3G... There's so many things the N96 can do that the iPhone can't... the only thing the iPhone is "better" is the touch UI.. but even IMO is not better, I prefer using a real keypad because it's MUCH easier than using the touchscreen. So in the end.. Love how Apple fanboys write a "review" saying that the iPhone is better than the N95.. Hell my old Nokia 3310 is better than the POS iPhone.
Almost all N series can play YouTube, there is nothing gr8 in it. Loads of 3rd party applications for symbian to do that crap.
i work in a mobile shop and the simple fact is that nokia n series phone's will all they flash stuff have the most problem's the iphone has less that's where nokia has lost the battle
the iphone is dog mess compared to the n96 and those who have the iphone are lozers, the n96 is better in very way, looks, memory, megabites and much more so those who need a phone getm the n96 NOT THE IPHONE, trust me i would know, because i work with phones, take my advice

Amazing that you all know so much about the fantastic N96..............when it hasnt even be launched yet ! Surely you should only make a judgement when you have had both hansets in your hand ......and i guess the reviewer above has........and most of you ! well you just havent ....therefore your only going on about what you have read.........FAT : The N96 will launch to more software and hardware issue than the Iphone....just look at the N95 !
Screw all those reviews about iPhone, what is the use of having a phone which cannot record video and cannot send a simple MMS, the basic necessity of a phone freak. I bet iPhone sucks at this because it cannot do both, whereas the N96 obviously does...Guyz this is the ultimate N series phone from the biggest stable in the world called NOKIA and NOT apple that has tried marketing the good features...I mean why would I even invest in a phone which does not even have a decent camera with flash, while I can get N96 with all that which a stupid iPhone can offer with more unbeatable features at almost the same price. when it comes to design, the winner is nokia n96 because iphone is too much big, it is not really a cellphone type. n96 is a kind of cellphone and not that much big. when it comes to media, of course, n96 is the real winner because it has a tv, wifi and can easily connect to computer while iphone has no tv. when it comes to video recording, n96 again is the winner and when it comes to camera still n96 is the winner. n96 will really kick-off that iphone. don't you know that iphone is not selling, it is always false news that they are number one but in reality it is not. vry rare has an iphone actually. maybe 20 out of 1 have an iphone and we will have to see that n96 20 out of 10 to 15 have.

The first generation N95 already supported Youtube...The Nokia browser also supports Flash, so that you can visit the real Youtube website and view all videos, instead of just the ones ofr mobile phones...
And then we come to an important feature that the iPhone is lacking: support for Adobe Flash...

If I get the iPhone, it'll be because of it's user interface, processor speed and awesome 480x320 display; bigger and twice as many pixels as on the Nokia N96

My boss just got his Iphone. It's really cool, for awhile. I can't help but feel that once you've shown it off to all your friends, your going to wonder what to do with it next. For the Nokia phones, software is released almost daily. I'm not going to go into features, but I think the N96 has the edge here.

The iPhone is my worst purchase ever. Ok I am an apple hater, but I am not like those apple fanatics that will never admit the flaws in the good looking but overpriced apple products. I have been using Nokia and only nokia for more than 10 years. I own an N95, but since I recently moved to the US I bought the fashionable, cool looking iphone. I loved the screen, but nothing more. 3G speed is terrible and usually I can only get EDGE in the crappy at&t network. that's even slower. Wifi performance isnt that good either. I have call drops from time to time and the call quality is disgusting. I need the other end to repeat a couple of times to understand. As an ipod, It doesnt offer much. I actually miss the stupid N95 hardware slide buttons for audio, especially when I am jogging.
You cannot connect the iphone to your pc via bluetooth to do anything serious, you cannot tether it to get internet to your pc through 3g (i was doing that over infrared with my Nokia 8210 10 years ago).
Apple has a tendency to advertise things that are not theirs and certainly not new as "impressive features". I was using my Nokia 8310 to order dvds from amazon.com over gprs 8 years ago.
The iphone keyboard is crap. Can;t type anything, takes me forever to write a message, especially if i try to write in greek-lish (greek is not supported). The stupid "dictionary" kicks in and you cannot disable it...
The apple iphone was designed for the usa mobile market that is at least 5 years behind europe (propably the only thing that's behind, to be honest). No message reports, no applications, no...
anyway, clearly i am an apple hater. And a proud one. But never again shall I betray Nokia! Even if sometimes they take advantage of the loyal customers.
Well, iPhone 3G design is fantastic, its features are great it works fast, it satisfies your daily needs but nothing , I said nothing compares to Nokia. I'm not a Nokia fan because before N96 appeared I was with iPhone, so .. I would go for a N96 : FAST INTERACTION , BEST CONNETIVITY , LOVEABLE DUAL SLIDE AND MEDIA FEELING , ELEGANT DESIGN.
Woe! I didn't imagine there would be so much consesus on the N96. :)
To tell the truth, I've been a PDA fan for so much time. I've bought PDA phoned with keyboards for over 10 years now. Not that there is any comparison between PDA's and smartphones, but my point is that I've been a fan of productivity and functionality.
The iPhone for sure misses out on some of that productivity by not having a decent keyboard, but... Every damn time I get it out of my pocket, unlock, and start using the interface, let me tell you, is worth more than every cent I've paid for it. It gets me looking forward to the next time I'm using it!
You can argue CAMERA, BETTER GPS, CONNECTIVITY... ETC ETC. But usability and lovability is one place where Apple has managed to kick ass. I can loudly say I have given up my addiction to PDA's for the iPhone 3G.
The N96 is an excellent phone, no doubt, and the iPhone 3G is missing out on a lot of features that could have made it a much better phone. But, stacking up features and more features in a device is not what makes it the best for you.
BTW, the iphone has just been named the #1 phone in the US. If anything, it means the iPhone wasn't just a hype.
Final point: you don't have to necessarily agree with me on all accounts. I am sure the N96 will work out better for some. If you use your phone for shooting videos or taking snapshots, definitely go for the nokia. For me, the 2MP works just fine untill something big comes up, I then use my Sony HDV or Nikon D80.
N96 video call,mms,gps good for networks that support the 3g/3.5g protocol eg. most of the Euro, Asia and most of the oceanic regions. Iphone is only good for USA because the cellphone technology is so BACKWARDS only to get sms services in 2007. They dont even know what 3g video call is. Video call has been around for more than 10years and most of the world got this feature in 2003. For this reason Iphone will be the #1 in US and not around the world.

I agree the iPhone is a good party trick basically, once everyone has seen it you're like... Hmm what can I do now? I sold my iPhone t a friend for $250 and a crappy old samsung phone for temporary use while I wait for my N96 from ebay, the iPhone gets EXTREMELY tedious when the ipod feature screws up on it and all your contacts are stored on the phone, so because you have to factory reset your phone because of it you lose EVERYTHING... I had to do this ATLEAST 5 times! Come on that is just ridiculous, it takes like 3 hours for a factory reset as well and having to set up all the features you had before... I'd say N96 Wins as being a phone, and the iPhone wins at being a computer
You didnt mention about the nokia having symbiam software. And it has BBCi built in. and it has until nifty tricks.
