Macworld Expo 2008: Female bloggers can Blog with (even more) Moxie

Comments (4)

blogging%20with%20moxie.jpgWiley is releasing a clutch of stuff at Macworld, but it was this not-particularly-Apple-related book release that caught my eye, for obvious reasons.

Blog designers Joelle Reeder and Kathy Scoleri have put together their tips for female bloggers in a book called The IT Girl's Guide to Blogging with Moxie, presumably in reference to their chutzpah-channelling Moxie Design Studio. Although the book was first published in October 2007, it's the first I've heard for it. Both authors are members of BlogHer, and have been featured speakers at South by Southwest.

The book aims to teach women the skills required to create a blog, maintain a website, manage RSS, podcasts and personal vs work-related blogs, and guide them in designing and creating a site and producing the content people want. Warning: this is a guide that really is for newcomers. It explains sidebars, headers and why blogging is good, hence titles like "Blog without breaking a nail". So if you're beyond that kind of thing, keep walkin' or you'll just feel patronised. Is attracting women to blogging through pink, sparkly technophobe-proof guides necessary? Nah. But I know some girls out there will probably appreciate it, so I'm not raining on Moxie's parade today.

As a female blogger, I find the tagline of this book a little patronising. Since the book's geared towards women, I can't help but decipher the tag-line as "this is fashionable, so listen up ladies!"

I'd prefer not to think of myself as that fickle, thanks!

Got nothing to say about your post, you really got an awesome blog. Would you mind if I ask you for a link exchange?

Regards,

Hi, thanks for the review/mention. We appreciate it!

The feedback is great, as well. We aren't suggesting that it's a book for every woman. In our opinions, being fashionable and being tech-savvy are not mutually exclusive. :)

Again, thanks for the post!

This sounds like a great book for beginners.

As a female designer myself, I think more women should be involved in web design, blogging and coding.
