The US state of California is launching a clutch of medical vending machines that can dispense marijuana to patients with a valid prescription. Despite lack of federal recognition of medical efficacy, 11 of 50 US states allow medicinal use of the drug for purposes such as pain relief and appetite stimulus.
Users in California can now be issued a special ID to use along with their fingerprint at the machines. There will be a security guard on site and a photograph will be taken at the machine. An interesting - and expensive - use of marketing and security technology for a purpose that's still controversial...
Disclaimer: don't say "dope" outside of the pursuit of headline punnery. It sounds sad enough in that context.
