Strike a chord with a Casio digital piano

I don't believe I've ever written about a musical instrument on Shiny Shiny before, so I thought I'd extend my gadget remit for the new Casio Privia digital pianos.

I had a lovely polished wood piano at home as a child, rarely used but much admired (even after the infamous lamp-breaking, lid-damaging incident), but being a sprog of the 80s I also wanted a synth, which I duly got and, erm, rarely used. Digital pianos are, of course, a lot classier and more classical than the humble synth, but never fail to remind me of one. Both the PX-720 and PX-120 have the traditional 88 keys in a body that's much lighter and less expensive than a grand piano, but strikes out for the same sound quality.

It does this with Acoustic and Intelligent Filtering technology and Tri-element sampling, which uses three real piano samples for each note at different key pressures. Silver and dark grey options for the PX-120 are elegant, or you can achieve a more traditional ash-walnut, cherry or maple look with the PX-720. Prices from £549.99 to £649.99, available now.
