Every year, Google release their Zeitgeist round-up, which looks at what was hot and not during the year. With Google Trends, they're able to create a load of graphs, so you can see where the spikes were, and who beat who. If you haven't used it, it's a great service for analysing trends - you can enter 'LOLcats' and 'W00t' and see which got searched for more over the year.

Here's what they found:

- The iPhone was the fastest rising search term, with Badoo and Facebook in second and third.
- World Cup and Mozart were the fastest falling search terms.
- The most popular search term globally was American Idol.
- HD-DVD beat Bluray throughout the year in search terms.

- LCD beat Plasma throughout the year
- The Xbox was the most popular search for gaming consoles, right up until December, when people started searching for a Wii.

It is amazing that the world is concentrated in searching the American Idol or iphone. Silly us!

Isn't it nice to be able to spot UK English straight away! Only the English would write "who beat who" instead of "who beat whom" as you'd have in civilized countries.

Rule Britannia!
