2007 has inevitably been the Year of Facebook. A search on Shiny Shiny for the term comes up with 210 results - could it be we became a tad obsessed earlier this year? But beware, because this is the first year that Christmas and Facebook have collided. And it could have disastrous results.
Chances are, you have added people as friends who, when push comes to shove, you would probably cross over the road rather than have to endure a stilted conversation about what old school friends are doing now. And you're probably quite safe in that, since you're unlikely to run into them.
Until Christmas.
Christmas is the time for giving, and receiving, and making an annual visit to your old local pub. Here, you see loads of people you went to school with, and for the most part, ignore them. Imagine then, if you have declared these people as 'friends' online.
The potential for embarrassment this Christmas is huge. Enormous. Disastrous. Whilst you're more than happy to collect friends online, it becomes blatantly obvious that you're all about the friend count when you start frantically avoiding eye contact with 75% of the pub. Ouch.
My advice? Start culling your friend list now.
