Can you smell that? Is that a tangy rot of sour grapes? Or is is the wise realism of a company that has been refining a respected OS for some years now? Symbian has responded with a wry sniff to the avalanche of Google-related news since the Android announcement. John Forsyth, Symbian's vice president of strategy, was quoted as saying: "A mobile OS is a very specialised form of rocket science. It's not search rocket science."
Also likening the Open Handset Alliance to the "common cold", Forsyth seemed singularly unimpressed by the whole Android fuss. Nokia, Symbian's most notable client, is not among the 33 manufacturers and carriers Google has partnered with, although it is in talks with the search giant.
