Oakley MP3 sunglasses have full iTunes support

split%20thump%20oakley.jpgThere's a big Oakley shop in Covent Garden and I've become so accustomed to pushing open the door with my backside whilst forcibly dragging my other half out of it so that the beleaguered staff can go home that I'm half-expecting to see the curve of my buttocks permanently imprinted into the door. Hopefully, however, I won't be seeing these on the bedside table next summer...

The Split THUMP specs are a tad sleeker than the O-ROCKRs, at least, and come in 51MB, 1GB and 2GB capacities. The frames are various shades of polished black, white and brown with appropriately matched lenses, some polarised, some not. Prices start at $249.00 (£175) and end up around the $399 mark. The Mylar speakers are removable when the MP3 function isn't being used and they're designed to withstand a workout with sweat-resistant frames. Although much is made of the iTunes support, there are a few provisos to note.

From Oakley's website:

Songs purchased from the iTunes® Plus section of the iTunes® Music Store and songs transferred to iTunes® from CDs are compatible with Split THUMP. Songs purchased from outside the iTunes® Plus section of the iTunes® Music Store are in the .m4p format and are not compatible with Split THUMP because Apple® reserves that format for iPod® use only.

But everything else will work, honest guv.

I want to think it's great that you can carry around your MP3 player in your sunnies - in spite of the fact that I have to get prescription sunglasses anyway - but really I can't help feeling it all looks a bit ridiculous. Not as much as the myvu, but still. Thank goodness for winter.
