Music players come and go, and Apple do seem to have more than their fair share of the market, but for those who find using iTunes fiddly, or simply resent the huge advertising campaigns as slightly brainwashing, the Archos 105 provides a good alternative. Cheaper than an iPod nano, it's £59.99 for 2GB, which is enough for 1000 songs, 20,000 photos, or 10 hours of video. The screen is 1.8, which isn't huge, but it more than makes up for it in the astounding quality of the videos which display in 262,000 colours, 160 x 128 resolution with 30 framer per second, which impressed all my Apple loving housemates. It's super light too, weighing in at a mere 48g, and one charge provides 18 hours of playback.
