Mobiles come and mobiles go, but every now and then you have something that makes more waves that Oprah on a fat day. The Seranata is such a model with its sleek lines and sophisticated styling, pushing the boundaries of what is considered a music phone, and what kind of sound quality we can expect from such portable devices.

The Seranata is the end result of a collaboration between Samsung and Bang & Olufsen, both prestigious names in their own right and together they have created something that they believe is a 'true innovation of a music player and mobile phone'. It weighs in at 136 grams and and has a 2.26 inch LCD TFT screen as well as a 4GB memory and artificial bass enablers. But where it truly makes waves is in the easy to use sensi-touch interface and the iPod like click wheel for easy scrolling through your tracks. The phone even has its own stand cleverly enclosed in the back, on which you can prop it up and use as a mini hi fi system.

The speciality of the Seranata is all about the sound quality, as they say, 'We want it to be a portable music system with phone features, not a phone with music features,' and they seem to have accomplished that goal, with a built-in Hi Fi speaker and top of the range bass system, the phone delivers top notch sound without distortion.

Event the ring tones are customised to the phone, with choices from all natural sounding wind chimes, glass and triangles providing a harmonic balance. They're such a fan of these unique ring tones that they've made it impossible for you to use a song of your choice, which is a bit of a shame I think. They use ICE power amplification to get great amplification, with all the focus being on the he ability to play uncompressed music tracks, something that will be a godsend to those audiophiles out there.

You can switch from music to mobile mode with one button and you can access the the Internet with a HSDPA connection, which offers all multimedia options including music and video email as well as the instant purchase of new music tracks.

The phone won't be available till November, but then you'll be able to find it in Bang & Olufsen shops country wide, and in some chosen outlets for around £1100.
