Whilst many people hotly debate that Aero is Wispa's equal, far more have decided that the melt in your mouth chocolate cannot be out of circulation any longer and have started a huge web-wide campaign to bring Wispa back into production once more. The campaign had such momentum and impact that the Cadbury's bigwigs have now listened to the people and reinstated the chocolate onto the market!
"This is the first time that the power of the Internet played such an intrinsic role in the return of a Cadbury brand," the company said. This mixture of social networking and nostalgia has placed networking sites in all companies consciousness as they have now seen the power that can be created by user buzz and online content. Not to imply that online is in any way a lesser form of communication, than say, print, but many companies ares till stuck in the dark age where 'blogs' are written in the bedroom and have no power; and this has now been turned on its head!
93 user groups had been identified by Cadbury on Facebook, all clamouring to have the chocolate back; and while it may have given into this mass peer pressure for now will Cadbury really see having Wispa back as a long term plan? It's keeping the cards close to its chest by saying it will 'produce 23 million bars', and they'll be available for a test period of some months.
Remember it was discontinued due to bad sales and even if a niche market remembers it fondly will that be enough to sustain it on the open market? With newcomers like Mars Planets on the scene, Wispa has serious competition on its hands, but till then I'm salivating at the idea of getting me some bubbly chocolate.
