We heard rumours about the Skype/3 phone, and now it turns out it was true. We will indeed be seeing a collaboration between the two companies, which will allow you to make and receive free VoIP phone calls to other Skype users, as well as instant messenger alerts (which is all I use Skype for anyway) from your mobile phone. About a year ago, 3 integrated Skype into their X-series handsets, but this phone promises to make the Skype process dead easy, since it all happens at the touch of a button. In fact, in the words of the press release, you can "put Skype in your pocket and make free Skype mobile calls and send free Skype instant messages at the touch of a single Skype button." Why does the word Skype sound so ridiculous now??
The handset will be available from the 2nd November in the UK, and will cost £49.99 on PAYG, and free on a contract. Best of all, it's not even a rubbish handset. It's got a 2 megapixel camera, internet browsing, MP3 player, and wouldn't you know it, you can get it in a blue or pink trimmed version.
