Your K9 is faulty.
The one I bought my son (from £19.99 from Toys R Us) whizzes around smoothly and has a long range (10m plus0. I reckon you have a dodgy set of batteries or there is something interfering on the same frequency as the remote. It's brilliant fun, works fantastically and a superb replica.
The review is bogus as the test unit is obviously dodgy! Buy it safely knowing it is great fun, especially at £19.99. Various stores do offers from time to time on one.
