New Apple iPod range: The iPod nano

Probably the most widely predicted and leaked of all the Apple announcements last night, the new widescreen iPod nano was given its debut to a chorus of surprised gasps when it turned out to be considerably more attractive than expected.

The boxy squarishness actually resolved itself into a feather-light, palm-sized beauty, which uses the highest resolution screen Apple have ever built into an iPod. Thus its 2" widescreen is actually the same resolution as the 2.5" screen sported by the iPod Video - now known as the Classic. It's also 65% brighter than previous nanos and, of course, full colour, with the new user interface and Cover Flow added. It'll even have games such as Vortex and iQuiz, all with great colour depth and graphics. Capacity is 4GB or 8GB with the 4GB available only in silver for £99, and the 8GB in silver, black, blue, a minty green or charity Product RED model for £129.

Apple's unprecedent global roll-out means you can get it online now. The nano's shipped last night and will be in stores shortly.
