Last year, James Kim died of exposure after going in search of help for his family. He was a hugely respected tech editor for CNET, and was a dedicated husband and father to his two young daughters. The event rocked the blogosphere, as it was used initially set up to find the Kim family, and afterwards, host tributes to James.
His wife Kati was found safely with her two daughters, and she has since set about rebuilding her life without her husband. Since the ordeal, she hasn't spoken to any media, preferring to work it out away from the public eye. The fact that she's chosen to give her first interview to a writer for our sister blog, Dollymix, shows that true friendships can be built over the internet (the writer met Kati on a forum). It's equal parts heartbreaking and inspiring, but is an incredible read, and one that if you've got a spare moment today I'd recommend you take a look at. You can read the first part here, and the second part here.

I have to say: Kati is a very inspiring person... After talking with her I have even more a positive outlook on life than I did before. She just lives her life in an authentic and joyful way. So strong, so resilient.

I still have James' last CNET MP3 player review on my Tivo and still watch it now and again. I remember back in the day watching him on the Screensavers. I'm not sure what it is, but I can't bring myself to delete that recording.
I'm glad that Kati and her daughters are doing well and hope the best for them.
