Jason Bruges and Greenpeace illustrate first dimmable eco-bulb

Saving the planet is so much easier to do when it doesn't inconvenience you, isn't it? Up until now, fluorescent bulbs have been off the on/off variety, and haven't worked with dimmer switches, making 'mood lighting' nigh on impossible. Until now. Now, the Varilight CFL bulb works with dimmer switches, and to celebrate, top designer Jason Bruges and Greenpeace has produced an installation, displayed at this year's 100% Light Exhibition in London.

The flower-bed based installation will glow with light which will ripple across its surface and respond to passers-by as they approach it. The aim is to prove that being energy efficient doesn't mean a style-bypass. And even better than that - each bulb will last up to 12 times longer than its incandescent brother.
