Television programmes now available on iTunes in the UK, more TV announcements to follow?

It's finally happened. On this innocent looking Wednesday morning Apple has announced that we in the UK will now be able to get television programmes from iTunes, at £1.89 a pop. They're launching with 28 shows, including Lost, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and a sprinkling of UK-produced shows such as MTV's Barrio 19. Most importantly, you'll be able to get My Super Sweet Sixteenth and Laguna Beach. Trash TV heaven (but still no movies...)!

Interestingly, there's also an Apple announcement going to be made on Wednesday 5th September, at a TV-related location. We'll be treated to a live satellite broadcast from Steve, which indicates it's a big one. So, is access to TV programmes on iTunes a vital component to the announcement? Could we be about to hear about a widescreen iPod? We'll keep you updated.
