Canon Europe has announced a veritable flurry of new cameras, among them four new PowerShot models. The G9 (pictured above), SX100 IS, A720 IS and A650 IS models are bound for UK shores next month.

The £429 G9 packs a massive 12.1 megapixels and you can even take RAW images. There's 6x optical zoom, advanced Noise Reduction technology and Canon's Face Detection helps portraits be clear and crisp. You can correct red-eye in playback which is on a high resolution 3" LCD screen with extra wide viewing angle. Canon is also boasting of "extra telephoto reach" with the addition of Digital Tele-Converter and Safety Zoom features. More pictures and specs for the other models after the jump.

The A650 IS and little compact brother the A720 IS both offer the same Face Detection technology, red-eye correction, 6x optical zoom and 2.5" LCD screens. The A650 IS packs 12.1 megapixels to the A720 IS's 8 and the former has 21 shooting modes to the latter's 19. Both shoot 30fps video too. The A650 IS weighs in at £329 and the A720 is a more affordable £229.

Despite being part of the PowerShot "value" range, the SX 1000 IS has plenty of respectable features for its £229. 8 megapixels may sound low compared to the G9 and A650's staggering 12.1, but anything more than 6 or 7 is much higher than the average user actually needs and will still deliver crystal clear printing even at A3 size. There's 10x optical zoom with image stabilisation, Face Detection technology with a new "Face Select" feature and plenty of anti-blur technology including ISO 1600. The LCD screen is 2.5" and Canon claims to have improved the red-eye correction function. Although we've pictured the silver above this is also available in black.
