Our eagle-eyed ethical shopper friends at Hippyshopper have been taking on the techies by revealing figures that suggest that far from being the energy-saving alternative to Google, Blackle may actual increase the amount of energy used. We already knew that flat screens didn't really show much of a difference in energy use, and now testing on LCD monitors by Techlogg revealed the increase in monitor power consumption. Techlogg point out that, since we know that LCD monitors do have to expend energy blocking the passage of light from the blacklight on a black screen, we should expect such results.

I prefer using www.Darkoogle.com as their text are green which reduce eye strain. So instead of saving energy from our monitor, it also save our user's eye energy.
I'm using at the moment BLACKOOGLE, which is similar to blackle but offers a lot more functionality like image search, youtube search, mail access, etc. And looks nicer too, give it a try!
