We've had a recent influx of HD camcorders, and it was only a matter of time before they were met coming the other way by a Blu-ray camera. Hitachi have taken the lead with this, displaying what are currently mockups that will become fully functional cams later this year. They'll feature Hitachi's new BD/DVD drive with a 5.3 megapixel image sensor. That takes the resolution up to 1920 x 1080 and they're claiming the cameras could be out in the states in a matter of months.
