Sometimes I come across a device seemingly so diametrically opposed to Shiny Shiny's glorious sparkly pinkness that I just can't help writing about it. It's a bit like gleefully getting mud on a frilly dress as a little girl.

There's something very Lara Croft about a PDA that "meets military specification for drops, vibrations and temperature extremes". You certainly won't have cracked-iPhone-screen style troubles with the TDS Recon 200X, as it looks armour-plated. The specs include Windows Mobile 5, Bluetooth, wireless, a minimum 200Mhz processor and two CompactFlash slots for expansion. For something so rugged, it's relatively light at just 17 ounces / 1lb; that's the equivalent weight of a can and a half of Coke or something like that. £960 (gulp) at Smart Devices.
