The experience of strolling around a large golf course, casually striking balls and practicing your swing is a great one; it involves an afternoon of chilled meandering and friendly banter whilst feeling vaguely athletic. However, this experience has never translated well to the bustling metropolis that is city life. Until now. Metro Golf combines the best aspects of the great outdoors with the comfort and easy access of the city, locating its premises just by Paddington station.
Once inside you are led through an airy reception into the golfing range. Using top of the range simulators you can practice your swing on courses from across the world, or perhaps you would like to check your posture against Tiger Woods or Ernie Ells. There are resident PGA professionals on hand to give you advice and help with your posture and putting techniques, and you have the option of booking a one to one session. There are six state of the art Full Swing simulators which feature the latest technology and are complemented by high quality golfing equipment.
Two infra red curtains track the flight, speed and spin of your shot, and the simulator then calculates where it would land and shows you where your next shot would be. There are different terrains to play on, as fifty of the top golf courses across the world have been computer generated, and there are different surfaces, both virtual and real that represent fairway, rough and bunker. The screen recalibrates after every shot, and you have the option to record your sporting prowess on video for an in depth analysis of your skills.
Should you be tired after a long day on the range, there are a variety of drinks and food to avail yourself from in the air conditioned lounge, and then you can restart your game again. It’s a great way for people who can’t get to the country to indulge in their favorite past time, and the quality of the screens is excellent. As a novice I found the experience a great introduction, and the one to one tuition extremely helpful, whilst my friend, a more intermediate player enthused about the experience.
